Since 1977, Animal Emergency & Referral Associates (AERA) has been a trusted leader in emergency veterinary care for pets throughout the North Jersey community. When your family veterinarian is unavailable during an urgent or unexpected situation, our highly trained Emergency Team is ready to help—fully staffed and open 24/7, 365 days a year, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

To further support families and their pets, AERA has implemented reduced Emergency & Specialty Exam Fees—over a 20% reduction—now through December 31, 2026. Our goal is to make advanced care more accessible and ensure pets receive the timely treatment they deserve.


Hannah Mittman, DVM, Emergency

Dr. Mittmann earned her Psychology degree from Vassar College in 2019 and her DVM from Tufts University in 2024. After graduation, she completed an internship at Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital in Akron, OH.

Originally from New York, Dr. Mittmann brings curiosity and compassion to every case.


Nathalie Rodriguez, DVM, Emergency

Dr. Rodriguez completed her Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences at Lehman College before earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from St. George’s University. She further advanced her training through participation in the ERi Program, gaining valuable experience in emergency medicine.

Originally from New York, Dr. Rodriguez brings a strong passion for learning and a deep commitment to helping animals.


Francesco Ungaro, DVM, Emergency

Dr. Ungaro earned his Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from the University of Delaware, followed by his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. He completed his clinical rotations at Purdue University, gaining a strong foundation in advanced diagnostics and patient care. After graduation, he further enhanced his training through the ER Immerse Mentorship Program at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital, where he developed additional expertise in emergency medicine.

A native of Brooklyn, NY, Dr. Ungaro’s path has taken him from the city to St. Kitts for veterinary school, and now back to the Northeast to serve pets and their families.
